After the publication of “You Can Be Young and an Architect” telling about the 5 first years of the agency, we invite you to discover “Welcome to Saint Mesmes”, a book about the complete construction process of the Marchesini French headquarters in Saint-Mesmes, France.
The book is a monograph illustrating the complete creation process of a building and its environmental adaptation and appropriation.
The Italian company Marchesini commissioned us the conception and construction of its headquarters in Saint-Mesmes, France. The building was completed at the beginning of 2009. It was conceived in relationship with the site and its morphology: the site slopes down three metres towards the west, offering attractive views over the neighbouring hills. “We wanted an office environment opens to the outdoor green spaces, a project which benefits from the natural, lights and colours, and respects the landscape while inserting a new constructed “object” within it”.
“Welcome to Saint Mesmes” is composed by tree books and a poster.
The main book begins with a critical text about the studio’s approach and process of settling an office building in a rural landscape. Two series of photos show the architecture of the building. The other books, conceived as "flip books" present, on one side the evolution of the construction site from several points of view and the other side a series of portraits. The poster illustrates the technical details of the architecture. As a whole, the books establish a concise and well-balanced box.
